Aldebol asks how promotional and open competitive exams are scheduled
Aldebol asks how promotional exam decisions differ from open competitive exams; Porter says DCAS uses data on employees eligible for promotion and can add exams to the schedule throughout the cycle.
On your promotional exams, the examination schedules published on DCAS's website show both promotional exams and open competitive exams that are scheduled for the upcoming fiscal year.
How do the conversations surrounding an agency's promotional needs
differ from the considerations you need to make when scheduling open competitive examinations?
And what are the main factors that will weigh on the decision to schedule a promotional exam?
Thank you for that.
So like just going back to what I had described earlier about the collaborative effort, you know, the data driven approach that we take to the exam schedule.
When we're engaging in that process, we look at.
Employees who would be eligible for promotion in a certain title.
You know, you have to have like the permanent underlying title to be eligible to take a promotional exam.
And so we let that data kind of drive which exams we offer.
So if we see an uptick in folks being made eligible for a specific title, then we would ensure that a promotion exam is on the examination schedule for that title.
Are there ever situations where promotional exams are scheduled on an emergency basis?
We do have flexibility to add exams to the schedule throughout the cycle.
