Aldebol asks who pays for NYC to Learn training courses
Aldebol notes some NYC to Learn courses cost up to $1,900 and asks who pays; Outar says costs range from $150 to higher for certificate programs and are borne by agencies, not employees, and Pollack notes some union training funds.
What is the price range of the training courses?
The New York City Learn website advertises several free courses, but we also saw some more intensive training courses that cost as much as $1,900.
Do the employing agencies put the bill for these courses?
Are there any courses that are paid out of pocket by participating employees or their unions that you know of?
I don't know if OLR can answer that.
So our trainings, the cost of it can range from anywhere from $150 to, as you said, the higher end.
If it's like a certificate program like Six Sigma, the good thing is that this cost is not to the employee.
It is to the agency.
And so any employee that participates in our program are not paying out of pocket for those trainings.
And I'll just add that it's a fee-for-services model, so the city does not benefit from providing training.
The cost is tied to the vendors that we utilize to perform the trainings.
And to add to that, from the bargaining perspective, we do have some contracts that have reimbursement for training.
We also have some unions that have training funds that the state contributes into that have their own training programs.
