Porter touts recruitment efforts including free exams and Jobs NYC Center
Porter highlights the Civil Service Modernization Advisory Committee with organized labor, free civil service exams for high school students and first-time test takers, the doubled Civil Service Pathway Fellowship, and the new Jobs NYC Center.
While today's hearing is concentrated on retention strategies, it is important to highlight the strides we are making in recruitment.
Just last week, we announced alongside Mayor Mamdani,
that we are launching the first of its kind partnership with organized labor to speed up and modernize hiring for city jobs.
The Civil Service Modernization Advisory Committee is actively working to develop in-house solutions and legislative fixes to improve the city's hiring system.
This is in addition to the administration's progress in connecting New Yorkers with job opportunities, including removing financial barriers and making civil service exams free for New York City high school students and first-time test takers.
Moreover, this past August, DCAS doubled the Civil Service Pathway Fellowship.
Expanding a direct pathway from college to city government careers for 400 New Yorkers, and just last month, the mayor alongside New York City Small Business Services and DCAS opened the Jobs NYC Center,
a walk-in hub connecting New Yorkers to good-paying jobs in public service.
We are utilizing all the tools available to position the city of New York as an employer of choice.
