New York City Council · Oct 16, 2026 · starts 1:19:36 · 1 min 26 sec

Hanif asks about CCHR's current disability caseload and trends. Kamuf Ward says she does not have total pending disability cases, and Rivera says the main trends are physically inaccessible housing and public accommodations and remote work requests in employment.

Shahana K. Hanif

What is CCHR's current caseload on disability-related issues?

Shahana K. Hanif

concerns.

JoAnn Kamuf Ward

I don't have the total number of disability cases that are pending.

JoAnn Kamuf Ward

I think we have, you know, how many are filed per year, but we'd have to go back and kind of run a more specific report to have how many cases that are before us involve disability.

Shahana K. Hanif

And then are you all tracking the...

Shahana K. Hanif

Trends in areas, so elevator being one of them, the example around students with disabilities and school buses, like is that, do cases like that also come to your table?

Shahana K. Hanif

What trends in issues are you all noticing?

Stephanie Rivera

Absolutely.

Shahana K. Hanif

You talked about housing discrimination.

Stephanie Rivera

Absolutely.

Stephanie Rivera

Yes.

Stephanie Rivera

Particularly in the housing context, and I would even say public accommodation space, the trend is physically inaccessible spaces predominantly.

Stephanie Rivera

In the employment context, what we're seeing, especially since COVID back to work orders, individuals really relying on remote work as a reasonable accommodation option.

Stephanie Rivera

And so we're seeing definitely an increase in those as well.
