Hanif asks about DOB permit timelines for ramps

New York City Council · Oct 16, 2026 · starts 1:27:45 · 1 min 9 sec

Hanif asks how long DOB typically takes to approve ramp permits. Rivera says prefabricated metal ramps can be done in weeks, while permanent fixtures can take six to nine months, and CCHR builds timelines into agreements.

Shahana K. Hanif

And we're spending too much time on ramps, but what is the typical length of time that DOB takes?

Shahana K. Hanif

To approve that request?

Shahana K. Hanif

for the permit to construct the ramp?

Stephanie Rivera

I couldn't say on average.

Stephanie Rivera

What we've seen is ramps can take anywhere depending on how permanent of the structure.

Stephanie Rivera

If they're installing a prefabricated metal ramp, and if that meets ADA guidelines for that building, that can definitely be done in a matter of weeks.

Stephanie Rivera

But then we've also had more permanent fixtures can take anywhere from six to nine months.

Stephanie Rivera

And again, we try to track those.

Stephanie Rivera

We ensure in our agreements that they follow specific timelines in refiling with DOB.

Stephanie Rivera

If DOB comes back and says, hey, we need this revised or we need an additional document, creating affirmative obligations on those landlords that says you have to answer back to DOB within this certain time frame so the movement doesn't stop.
