Menin challenges SpaceX on subpoena and asks support for Council bills
Menin says SpaceX's safety commitment is undermined by the Council having to subpoena the company to testify, and asks whether SpaceX will support the Council's legislation; Castillo-Madrid says the 10 AI bills are under review and SpaceX will provide feedback.
I just want to challenge that because if your commitment is to safety, why did we have to subpoena the company to compel you to be here?
I'm here today to answer your questions as best as I can.
I wasn't part of any conversations before that, and I'm happy to be here and help with anything I can.
It just doesn't instill a lot of trust and confidence when we literally had to, not only did SpaceX AI fail to come to our hearing, we had to issue a subpoena
and were ready to go to court to enforce that subpoena before we were able to secure the company's commitment today to testify.
We submitted a written response and have been in contact with council and your council's council since last week.
And we agreed to appear here today.
And I'm happy to continue answering your questions as directly as I can.
So we have numerous bills that we heard last week at the hearing that the company did not attend.
Will SpaceX AI commit to support the council's legislation?
I believe the 10 AI bills that New York City Council is proposing are under review by the team, and we're happy to work with you to make sure that we are advancing technically feasible and
provide meaningful feedback on what safeguards need to be there for our users.
