Menin outlines Council AI safety bills
Menin says AI leaders often warn about their own risks, then details proposed Council solutions including emergency preparedness, independent third-party validation free of conflicts, whistleblower incentives, and a plan for AI hacks into city systems.
Like I said at the hearing last week, these companies are developing technology that can reshape so many aspects of our lives.
And yet they are being led oftentimes by individuals who are publicly warning about the risks with their models.
So we deserve to have those risks, those safety concerns answered, as well as a discussion about what are the best legislative solutions to address those risks.
This city council has proposed solutions to address, for example,
emergency preparedness.
We have bills to require third-party independent validation that is free from conflict of interest.
We have a bill first in the nation to incentivize whistleblowers to come forward, as well as a bill to devise a plan for the scenario in which, in case AI hacks into city systems, as well as other bills as well.
