Q&A

Chair Williams asks if racial equity plan changes funding allocations

New York City Council · Oct 19, 2026 · starts 1:20:36 · 1 min 18 sec

Chair asks if the plan changes who receives funding; Vij says it makes process commitments, including general operating support, multi-year support, streamlined applications, multilingual outreach, and deeper relationships with borough arts councils.

Diya Vij

FY 2027 is our goal.

Nantasha M. Williams

Okay.

Nantasha M. Williams

Does DCLA's revised racial equity plan commit to changing who receives funding, or does it just make process commitments or maybe metric commitments to assess?

Nantasha M. Williams

If so, what allocation targets and deadlines apply?

Diya Vij

Yeah, we do make process.

Diya Vij

recommendations and goals for ourselves.

Diya Vij

The processes are peer reviewed, so we don't have in, you know, we won't say that an outcome, we won't predict an outcome for the panel,

Diya Vij

but we'd have put forward a series of process changes that we hope to look into based on public feedback and what we know is just is more equitable looking into general operating support, looking into rethinking multi-year and what that looks like for our organizations.

Diya Vij

And again, like streamlining our application processes and doing much more outreach and multilingual outreach to get more

Diya Vij

organizations in the door and also increasing our depth of relationship with the borough arts councils, which will help us reach not only individual artists, but also those grassroots arts organizations that are

Diya Vij

smaller than what DCLA would award to on their own.
