Chair Williams questions Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission roster and meetings
Chair asks who serves on the commission and when it last met; Vij says DCLA is appointing new members and current members are still in their seats, but no new appointments since administration change.
I would say just during the different administration, there's also a lot of staff turnover as well.
Yes, I did read the article with the former commissioner talking about how politics definitely get in the way of a lot of these plans.
But I will also just follow that up to say that we are really committed to data transparency and put that in our racial equity plan.
So moving forward.
We talk about missing data.
I understand.
I understand.
Okay.
DCLA's Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission webpage still lists former officeholders as ex-officio members and several other members on the public roster who appear to no longer be involved.
So who currently serves on the commission?
What are their appointment and term dates?
And when did the commission last meet?
Yeah.
We're currently in the process of appointing new members to that commission to be up and running in the next month or so.
Okay, so can you help us understand why the information is inaccurate online?
I don't know that they are officially not serving.
They are still in their seats.
We just have not appointed new members since the administration change.
Okay.
And again, a section in the charter, 2505, assigns the commission policy coordination and research functions.
What create NYC findings are?
recommendations did the commission produce and what action did DCLA take in response?
The commission was very involved.
They not only in giving their own feedback, but in organizing various public engagements with their own communities to have input into the plan from like the first meetings through the final reports.
So it's hard to point to exactly the areas where they
contributed, but their thinking, ideas, and desires are kind of all over the plan.
