Chair Dinowitz opens with personal background and polarization concerns
Eric Dinowitz introduces himself as Chair of the Committee on Education and as a NYC public schools and CUNY alum. He warns of deepening polarization and youth detachment from civics, and says the city must re-engage students in civic education.
Now let me turn it over to Chair Dinowitz for his opening remark on the hearing topic on his resolutions.
Thank you, Chair Joseph.
Good afternoon, everyone.
I'm Councilmember Eric Dinowitz, Chair of the Committee on Education, but I think more importantly, New York City Public Schools alum and CUNY alum.
You know, we are in a time of deepening polarization, as was mentioned in Councilmember Krishnan's bill, misinformation or lies,
and people just becoming so detached from civics that it becomes critical that we do what we can in New York City to re-engage our youth, our kids in civic education
and ensure those incentives are there for our schools to engage in that kind of education.
