Ryle details two-tier professional learning and partner schools
Ryle says DOE designed citywide professional learning and intensive school-based partnerships. She says the model shifted to district-based support as participation grew.
The support that schools receive for the seal of civic readiness is incorporated into the overall Civics for All program.
Earlier, I mentioned the school-based partnerships that were part of the initial design of the Civics for All in 2018.
While all civics curricular resources created at that time were sent to every New York City public school,
we knew that providing those resources without support for their implementation, particularly outside of a mandated content area, would not result in their widespread use.
So we designed a two-tier system of professional learning.
One was available citywide for all schools to participate in, while the other was a more intensive school-based partnership model in which opting-in schools were provided with direct support from the members of the newly created Civics for All team.
They did this to integrate into their teaching and learning they were already doing.
Once the seal became part of New York City Public Schools'civic education offerings, both tiers were updated to include support for its implementation.
