Vine defines CPL and its benefits
Vine says CPL saves students time and money on the path to a degree and validates learning gained on the job, through training, or through lived experience. She says CPL sends a message to recipients that they are college material.
My name is Alyssa Vine, and I am the University Director of Credit for Prior Learning in CUNY's Office of Academic Affairs.
Credit for Prior Learning, or CPL, is an academic process by which CUNY's colleges can award academic credit for college-level learning acquired outside the traditional classroom.
CPL is a nationally recognized strategy for recruitment and student success because it saves students time and money on their path to earning a degree.
It also recognizes and validates their learning, whether it was gained on the job, through industry training, or through personal lived experience.
CPL cultivates a sense of individual achievement and readiness for higher education, sending a message to its recipients that they are college material.
