Abreu asks about capital costs for West 125th Street ferry
Wong estimates $26 million for two 150-passenger vessels and $1 million for landing upgrades; more detail will come in the vision study.
In the 2018-2019 Ferry Expansion Feasibility Study, EDC estimated that the West 125th Street site would require $8 million in capital funding to accommodate a passenger ferry and make the site viable.
What is EDC's current estimate for any improvements to ferry infrastructure that would be required at the West Harlem Piers?
So when we did an initial estimate, and again, we are doing more detailed work through the vision study, but in an effort to provide some early information related to the bills, we did put some information together.
At West 125th Street, we are adding to our costs about $26 million for the cost of two 150 passenger vessels.
So because West 125th Street is a little more than four miles outside of our existing service area, in order to reach it, you need to have actually more vessels on the routes that we operate than we have today.
So that would be the cost for two vessels, you said?
Yes.
And then in terms of the actual...
location, the dock, the landings.
Are there any capital estimates you have for that that you would need?
We added a million dollars to our first cut estimate here.
A million?
Yes, because we looked at it and there is a barge there that is technically usable by our ferry vessels.
What we do want to make sure is that if we're providing regular ferry service anywhere, that it has the right kind of upgrades to be resilient and standardized for the system.
That was a very preliminary number, but we would take another look at that for permanent service.
And of course, I hope that EDC sees me as a partner here in terms of getting, if there's funding necessary.
capital funding necessary for the docs themselves, I mean, for any additional capital expenditures, let me know.
If there's something that you need, let me know because I'll make it a priority.
