Kathy Sebeck says City Island Civic Association opposes ferry location
Sebeck says the testimony portal shows more opposition than eight; a previous council member survey found residents did not want a ferry; she asks the bill to specify Orchard Beach and agrees with EDC's concerns.
And next on Zoom, first Kathy Sebeck, followed by Dan McSweeney.
Good afternoon.
Can you hear me?
Yes, we can hear you.
Oh, thank you so much.
I was on the phone and the Zoom here.
We submitted, my name is Kathy Seaback.
I'm from the City Island Civic Association.
We submitted our testimony along with many members of our community to the portal for a hearing and also to testify.
At council.
NYC, council.nyc.gov.
I hope you look at all of that because I don't think Councilman Farias is eight opposed and 354 is an accurate portrayal.
That may be the email she received, but the public is not asked to send the email to her.
So I would hope you please consider the testimony in those two places.
We also sent to her and to the over 1,700 signatures on petitions.
Our civic association has hundreds of members, and I hope you consider that before you move forward.
The rollout of this bill, yes, ferry has been discussed quite a bit on City Hall for years.
Councilman Marmorato was not in support of a ferry here and did a survey and found the residents did not want it.
And we requested Orchard Beach to be in the study.
Now, the parsing of words of it's adjacent, I think before they go forward with this bill, they should amend it to say Orchard Beach or is adjacent mean all of Palin Bay Park.
I think it would be clear to the community and the public if we knew this, because it was very confusing to a lot of the residents.
Not that they didn't understand, but what does adjacent mean?
And I think a clear form of that would be fine.
But you could read the testimony sitting on small.
I appreciate Mr.
Wong because.
Almost everything Mr.
Wong said is part of our argument as some of the residents from City Island.
I agree with what he said, and I'm glad a person that is an expert on this, that we are a pretty informed association.
I don't think traffic will be relieved by a ferry.
Maybe when at Orchard Beach, the cars on the road would not come to Orchard Beach and take a ferry.
But this has been an argument ongoing, and it was just rolled out on Friday by Councilman Abador.
Thank you.
To let the community know.
And also, Amanda Farias was an email to me on Sunday.
That's not a lot of time.
The community supports our effort.
Thank you very much for your testimony.
Thank you so much for listening.
