Maloney asks about 59th Street Bridge overflight enforcement
Fredrickson says pilots enter Class Bravo airspace and must turn around; LaGuardia tower steps in; DOC NYC can revoke a license for repeat offenders.
And similarly, a question on enforcement.
Seaplanes are not permitted to fly over the 59th Street Bridge, but who is monitoring that, and what are the consequences for noncompliance with that rule?
Yeah, so as you approach 59th Street Bridge, you start entering Class Bravo airspace with LaGuardia, so they will need to turn around to not interfere with the operations of LaGuardia, and that's when the tower steps in.
And so how do they enter the East River Corridor?
They're typically coming from the south and turning around, but yeah, depends.
And what sanctions are in place when pilots do not follow the rules?
Well, we have the ability through DOCM-RIC to revoke the license if they are found to be a repeated offender of these rules that we put in place.
So we do have that ability to restrict them further.
And how often has that happened?
I would have to get back to you.
I'm not aware of a recent incident.
