Thomas-Henry cites Mets, Etihad Park, and housing numbers
Thomas-Henry notes 33,000 fans per Mets game, 25,000 seats at Etihad Park, and 2,500 homes; ferry would provide an alternative and support local businesses.
I mean, let's just look at the numbers.
And as a daughter of Queens, you know I have to start with the New York Mets.
This season alone, the Mets welcomed an average of over 33,000 fans on any given game day to Citi Field.
And that's in a losing season.
Now let's add to that equation 25,000 seats at Etihad Park, 2,500 affordable homes,
Thousands of permanent jobs and colleagues, that doesn't even begin to account for the proposed Metropolitan Park development.
That equals greater pressure on the same infrastructure that our communities already depend on.
And who feels that pressure?
Our neighbors, our working families, and our small businesses.
The math is not complicated.
If we are going to multiply the number of people coming to Willits Point, we must expand ways they can get there.
That is what Intro 846 is about.
A future where a family living in Willits Point has more than one reliable way to get to work.
Where a Mets fan or NYCFC supporter can spend time supporting our local restaurants, shops, and small businesses.
And where transportation is not an afterthought, but a foundation of responsible growth for our neighbors in Corona,
East Elmhurst, Flushing, and the surrounding communities.
We cannot build world-class destinations with one way in and one way out.
Intro 846 is about planning for the Queens we are building, protecting the quality of life of the neighbors who built it, and making sure that growth works for everyone.
Thank you.
