Ariola asks how to prevent another Kevin Daly incident
Ariola notes Kevin Daly's case was life-threatening but went into the system as unknown after four calls. Miano says FDNY disputed none of that and reviewed the assignment minute by minute, and Werner says they are improving communications between NYPD and EMS.
Okay, so, but Kevin Daly was a life-threatening call, and four calls were placed, and he went into unknown conditions.
So how can we prevent an incident like that from happening in the future?
So what you just stated was 100% correct, and we are not disputing that, right?
So what Chief Werner, and again, Chief Werner, I'll defer to her to speak on it, but as soon as this came to our attention, right, we
painstakingly went through every single line of the assignment, minute to minute to minute, all the calls that were made, all of the interactions between the police dispatchers and the EMS dispatchers, and then
our radio dispatchers to see was there a unit available, where were they responding from.
And we are working on improving our communications between NYPD and EMS.
Chief Werner?
That's very accurate.
We are looking to improve the communications between PD and EMS to make sure that we get vital information.
I'm sorry, what was the second part of the question?
How can we make it better?
How can we make sure that incidents like this don't happen in the future?
Currently, I'm utilizing, I have offline members as well doing other functions such as QA and training.
So during periods of high call volume, I am putting them offline and bringing them, taking them offline and bringing them to the call-taking floor to increase our capacity.
