Chair Riley asks about DCP vacancy rates and hiring

New York City Council · Oct 21, 2026 · starts 2:00:45 · 42 sec

He asks for breakdown of borough staffing and vacancy rates; Garodnick says overall vacancy rate is 24%, with 28 positions posted, 9 in pipeline, and civil service call-ins.

Kevin C. Riley

Do you have a breakdown of boroughs, staffing, and vacancy rates currently?

Dan Garodnick

So we have an overall vacancy rate of 24%, which is largely driven by the fact that we have 46 new vacancies that we're working to fill.

Dan Garodnick

Right now we have 28 positions posted.

Dan Garodnick

We recently filled, we have nine people in the pipeline for some of our other vacancies, so hiring is a priority.

Dan Garodnick

We also are completing, a lot of our positions at the borough offices are city planning positions that are subject to civil service appointment.

Dan Garodnick

We completed a city civil service call-in this summer.

Dan Garodnick

We have another one coming up in the fall so that we can start to identify candidates from the civil service list and fill those roles as well.

Kevin C. Riley

Okay.
