Chair Riley encourages DCP to engage with Council Member Thomas-Henry on Willits Point

New York City Council · Oct 21, 2026 · starts 1:03:04 · 51 sec

He mentions a tour of Willits Point, notes past projections of 5,000-6,000 units then 2,500, and encourages conversation with Thomas-Henry.

Kevin C. Riley

Thank you.

Kevin C. Riley

We're going to hear from Brooks Powers.

Kevin C. Riley

But just to add on to what Councilmember Thomas Henry was saying about Willis Point, I did do a tour with her at Willis Point.

Kevin C. Riley

And I think in probably 2008, when this was first spoken about, I think they projected

Kevin C. Riley

roughly about 5,000 to 6,000 units of housing.

Kevin C. Riley

And then the last administration said about 2,500 units of housing.

Kevin C. Riley

You have a council member here that will want to activate the other side of Willis Point, but it took us so many years to get to that point.

Kevin C. Riley

So I would just encourage, you know, having that conversation with Councilmember Thomas Henry because she is very adamant on addressing the housing need.

Kevin C. Riley

Revitalizing that area within her district.

Kevin C. Riley

Okay.

Kevin C. Riley

Next, we'll hear from Councilmember Savina Brooks-Powers, followed by Banks and Carl Nassion, and then our majority whip.
