Council Member Brewer expresses frustration about Upper West Side on fast track
She says the Upper West Side wants affordable housing but has no vacant land, asks why it's on the list, and says conversions of SROs are not counted.
Okay, you can imagine I am really pissed, and I find that this conversation is...
Councilman Bill, can you just speak into the mic a little bit more?
Sorry.
I am.
This thing doesn't...
I can't move it.
No, it doesn't move.
So my question is, in the Upper West Side, we want affordable housing.
We always have.
But you don't count conversions of SROs, which is what's happening now, because that's not an immediate from bottom up.
Also, I want to pick up on the chair.
I've done over 200 ULERPs, more than anybody else.
And I will say, I always say in Manhattan, we'd like to have some affordable housing.
And he said, no, no, no, Gail, we're going to the Bronx because the land is cheaper.
So screw you.
You're not getting affordable housing.
You're not getting vouchers.
We're just going to do market and then hopefully some MI8.
That's it.
So I don't understand why is the Upper West Side on this list when there is not one vacant lot available?
How can it be on the list if it's not possible to conform?
Can you answer that question?
