Council Member Louis asks how DCP will handle private applications citing IBX
She asks how DCP will approach private developers using the future IBX as rationale; Garodnick says they look at land use rationale, welcome transit-oriented development, but treat applications with same scrutiny.
And how will DCP, and I think Chair Riley alluded to this earlier, but how will DCP approach private developers'applications?
who will use the future IBX as a rationale for their plans?
That's a great question.
I think every time we receive a private application, we're looking at the land use rationale relative to the surrounding context.
We know that certainly locating housing
near transit is essential.
It's a climate-friendly development.
It supports fair housing.
And so to the extent that applicants are looking to maximize transit opportunities, we certainly welcome that, right?
But we would obviously treat any application with the same scrutiny in respect to environmental review and land use review.
But those are certainly factors, right, where there's connectivity to transit is important.
Right.
Thank you so much.
Thank you, Chair Riley.
Thank you, Chair Marte.
