Sanchez asks about 2025 fall protection enforcement campaign
Sanchez asks how many sites the citywide fall protection campaign inspected and how many violations and stop work orders resulted; Tigani says inspectors found hazardous conditions endangering workers at 50 locations, resulting in stop work orders, using the department's dedicated sweep team.
DOB data shows that worker falls caused 163 of the 320 construction injuries and six of the 10 fatalities in 2025.
Department of Buildings launched a citywide enforcement and education campaign in response, as you mentioned in your testimony, Commissioner.
How many sites did the campaign inspect?
How many violations and stop work orders were issued for fall protection during the campaign?
Were the inspections proactive?
And how were those inspections different from what DOB normally does?
So I can tell you right now that at the end of last year, during the sweep, our inspectors found hazardous conditions endangering workers at 50 separate locations, resulting in stop work orders for these sites.
And like I said before, we have a dedicated team for sweeps, so this is a typical tool that we would use whenever we see an issue crop up that we need to handle.
