Q&A

Sanchez asks how many fatal sites had prior violations or stop work orders

New York City Council · Oct 21, 2026 · starts 1:40:38 · 1 min 6 sec

Sanchez says six of the eight FY2026 fatality sites did not require a construction super and asks how many had open DOB violations or prior stop work orders; Shamash identifies 174 Jefferson Street and 3728 Crescent Street as the two requiring a super and notes one fatality since July 1, 2026 at 1748 Tudor Road, while Tigani says none had prior stop work orders and violation data will follow.

Pierina Ana Sanchez

Thank you.

Pierina Ana Sanchez

So of the eight that occurred in fiscal year 2026, only two required a construction superintendent, you're saying.

Pierina Ana Sanchez

So six did not.

Pierina Ana Sanchez

That means that they were at smaller sites?

Yegal Shamash

It doesn't necessarily mean smaller sites.

Yegal Shamash

It just means the type of work that was occurring at those locations.

Yegal Shamash

So it could be a larger construction site that is doing a small alteration.

Yegal Shamash

It doesn't necessarily mean a smaller site.

Pierina Ana Sanchez

Thank you.

Pierina Ana Sanchez

And then how many of the sites related to these eight fatalities

Pierina Ana Sanchez

How many of those had open DOB violations or prior stop work orders?

Ahmed Tigani

None of the eight had prior stop work orders.

Ahmed Tigani

We'll have to get back to you on the violations.

Ahmed Tigani

I don't have that data right here.

Pierina Ana Sanchez

Thank you.
