Sanchez asks about incident types in FY2026 fatalities
Sanchez asks what types of incidents caused the eight FY2026 fatalities and how many occurred at sites requiring a site safety manager or construction superintendent; Shamash says five were falls, one was excavation soil work, one was burn inhalation, and one was struck-by, and that only two of the eight sites required a construction super.
So now I want to move to some questions that I believe were provided to you all beforehand, so they're more numbers and processes kind of questions so that we can all be on the same page.
Moving back to construction-related injuries and fatalities, the MMR reports that construction-related injuries and fatalities, excuse me, injuries fell 12% in FY 2026 from 263
to 320, while fatalities stayed at 8.
And I want to correct myself.
I said 8 to 10 earlier, but it's 6 to 10, excuse me, 6 to 8 each year since fiscal year 2022 in terms of the number of fatalities.
What was the type of incident for each of the eight fiscal year 2026 fatalities?
How many of these eight occurred at sites that required a site safety manager, site safety coordinator, or construction superintendent?
How many of the eight occurred at sites with open DOB violations or prior stop work orders?
And how many construction fatalities has DOB recorded from July 2020?
Excuse me, July 1st, 2026 to present.
For fiscal year 2026, as you mentioned, we had eight fatalities.
Five of those, eight were related to worker falls.
One was related to excavation soil work.
And then the last two.
One was burn inhalation, and the last one was a struck by.
