Sanchez asks about Mayor's Committee on Construction Safety scope
Sanchez asks what the Mayor's Committee on Construction Safety will cover and who is invited; Tigani says invitations are out to labor, workers, worker rights organizations, industry experts, and city officials, with topics including enforcement tools, PPE, accountability gaps, emerging technology, and protecting workers in heat waves.
Okay, so I'm going to move to questions about the task forces that you've mentioned invitations went out for.
So starting with the Mayor's Committee on Construction Safety, can you give us a sense of what the agendas will look like, what will be the scope?
You mentioned root causes of persistent construction injuries and fatalities.
I imagine falls, but what are other items that you will be looking at and who?
has been invited to participate.
So I'll just start with the second part first.
So currently invitations are out, and typically with our committees, like with our building code committee, once we confirm who's on the committee or on the task force, that's something we make sure that we are putting publicly out to the public.
But as I said earlier, we believe that we'll have a strong mix of labor representatives, workers, worker rights organizations, industry experts, and of course various senior level officials
both from city council and from the administration.
And then getting into the agenda, I mean I think it's fair to say that these are starting topics obviously through a conversation.
You can go into other areas, but I had mentioned earlier about the enforcement tools.
We may look at personal protection, PPE equipment, accountability gaps, as has come up already in this hearing, may also come up in the conversation.
Repeatedly violates violations and how safety standards interact with that.
And I think a big part of this also is about emerging technology.
So whether that's on the enforcement side, wearable gear, I think when we also talk about accountability and responsibility, both on the agency side and the workers on site, is there a culture
or there's a culture mechanism we need to force more?
And then
the environmental impact.
So I mentioned earlier, but focus on how to protect workers during excessive heat waves, for instance, is something that really took shape this summer, and we want to continue that conversation in the committee.
Thank you.
Thank you, Commissioner.
It's helpful to understand.
