Sanchez asks about structural review for conversion projects
Sanchez asks whether DOB will add structural review requirements for conversions that add floors; Tigani says the investigation continues, DOB views the Pfizer issue as a construction site problem rather than a conversion problem, and outside engineers including Thornton Tomasetti will provide recommendations once the review concludes.
Does DOB plan to implement additional structural review requirements for conversions that add floors?
So the investigation continues.
We're continuing to look at both what's happening here, but we're looking at data related to other construction sites, enlargements.
Again, I think we're...
Looking at this, since we don't see this as an issue related to office residential conversion, but a construction site issue that we need to examine more deeply, all recommendations will be on the table.
Additionally, as part of the review, we've asked the additional engineers that have brought in, and in this case it was Thornton Thomasetti, to...
In their review provide us recommendations about where things could be stronger and made more concise or more efficient.
So we'll be looking at ourselves.
We'll be asking for feedback from the additional engineers brought onto this project to look and review what happened.
And we'll be making recommendations after we review that.
Thank you, Commissioner.
I want to acknowledge that we are joined by Councilmember Salam.
So you said the investigation is ongoing.
Is there anything you can tell us about precisely what happened at Pfizer?
What any anything with respect to what went wrong?
There have been claims that there wasn't insufficient shoring, that that's not what caused the buckling of the columns.
Is there anything that you can share with us?
Unfortunately, it would be inappropriate to talk about items in the middle of the investigation that we're working on with other law enforcement partners.
And so we'll need to wait until that investigation is concluded.
Thank you.
