Sanchez asks for violations from Local Law 79 proactive inspections
Sanchez asks how many violations and stop work orders resulted from the proactive inspection program; Tigani reports the Proactive Enforcement Initiative produced 19,847 inspections at 13,092 unique locations and 14,161 violations between January 2025 and 2026.
I'm going to ask one more question, and then I'll turn it over to Councilmember Zhuang for her questions and any other colleagues before I continue.
Okay, so with respect to Local Law 79 of 2024, thank you for the updates within your testimony regarding the implementation of the Proactive Inspection Program,
where DOB utilizes predictive analytics to identify potentially problematic buildings, such as buildings with unlicensed or unpermitted work, maintenance issues, or structural issues.
Can you tell us, in addition to the number of proactive inspections that you have been able to do in fiscal 26, 25, and 24, can you tell us the number of violations and stop work orders that have been issued as a result?
And is the rate of stop work orders issued and the rate of violations found in proactive inspections different from the rate that is found in reactive inspections or otherwise?
Let me start with the numbers you requested.
So there have been, just more generally pulling back, between January 2025 and 2026, the Proactive Enforcement Initiative has produced
19,847 total inspections at 13,092 unique locations.
There have been 14,161 violations issued during the Proactive Enforcement Initiative.
So I can ask our first deputy to speak to the inferences and findings.
the differences between both, but I'll just defer.
Thank you, Commissioner.
