Sanchez probes inspector headcount for enforcement inspections
Sanchez asks how many of DOB's 1,700 employees conduct the 160,000 enforcement inspections; Tigani says 430 inspectors handle construction inspections within an overall inspection universe of 609, and notes development inspections also contribute to construction safety through sign-off checks.
And then, so focusing in on the enforcement inspections that we're talking about here, roughly 160,000, can you help us understand of the 1,700 headcount,
how many, and we have roughly 338 construction inspectors, is that the number of inspectors that is effectuating these 160,000 inspections?
Those numbers are for both development and enforcement inspections.
Those are the total number of inspectors that the department has.
Okay, so then how many inspectors are being dedicated to enforcement inspections?
So it's 430 for construction inspections.
And overall...
Is your mic on?
Yeah.
Okay.
430 for construction inspections.
The overall inspection universe is 609.
And we can break it down even further for units.
We can follow up with a breakdown for units.
But I will also point out that development inspections has a role in construction safety.
And so before we allow a project to have any sign-offs or move to get their TCO or CO, those inspectors are making sure that the connections are there properly, that the work's been done according to plan.
So for us, we see it.
As a larger holistic whole.
Got it.
Thank you.
Thank you, Commissioner.
