Tigani cites SST card counts and Red Code fraud enforcement
Tigani reports over 396,000 active SST cards, nearly 74,000 supervisor cards, and about 114,000 worker wallet cards, then describes DOB's coordination with DOI and the Brooklyn DA on the Red Code indictment, revoking its provider status and moving to invalidate 2,000 cards, with SBS offering free replacement training.
We take site safety training seriously.
We have taken strong enforcement action against course providers who put the public at risk.
Just last month,
DOB coordinated with the Department of Investigations and the Brooklyn District Attorney to investigate Red Code, Inc., leading to an indictment of the company and its principals for selling fraudulent OSHA and
safety training cards to workers who never received the required training.
Immediately following the indictment, we revoked their status as a DOB-approved course provider and developed a plan to invalidate all 2,000 active SST cards the company has issued,
citing the danger of allowing untrained workers onto job sites and the need to preserve the integrity of the city's construction safety training program.
Simultaneously, the Department of Small Business Services launched a remediation program, urging affected workers to contact the agency and provided free, legitimate replacement SST training through
SBS authorized providers so workers could come into compliance and continue to work safely on construction sites.
These enforcement actions underscore DOB's core responsibility to protect the public by ensuring that every worker on a construction site holds a legitimate, verifiable SST card supported by actual training, not fraud.
