Matt Weth calls Borden a detention facility with systemic failures
Weth says Borden is not a residence but a holding or detention facility, says management failures run from the top down, staff are unsupervised, and there is no accountability.
My name is Matt Weth.
I was honorably discharged from the Air Force 2005.
I had the unfortunate fortune of ending up at the Borden Avenue, as they call it, Veterans Residence, which I'd like to start right there.
That's an open insult.
The name of the facility, it's not a residence.
At best, it's a holding facility.
If I'm being honest about it, it feels much more like a detention facility.
You asked my fellow veteran over here whether it was a couple issues or systemic.
I like that I can look at Jody Rudin while I say this.
It's decidedly systemic.
Your organization's idea of what constitutes organizational management is an embarrassment to the concept itself.
The problem is from the top down, and it's just rot exposed at every level.
I have management experience, unfortunately for me, because I can see glaringly.
You say lack of oversight?
Like, yeah, lack of oversight at every level.
The, the, uh,
lowest ranked employees there, if you will.
The bulk of the staff effectively operates with no supervision.
I couldn't tell you what their duties are supposed to be.
Collectively, they use their numbers to abscond from responsibility.
I can tell you if you walked in that facility right now, you wouldn't have to even be able to get in.
If you just went in those double glass doors and looked, because you can see the desk, you know from experience, Councilperson Murano, you can see what's going on.
In front of the, you know, beyond the double glass doors.
I can guarantee you there are at least three or four people sitting in that office behind the desk, socializing, doing nothing.
And they're probably all supposed to be doing something.
And there's no management.
Nobody is watching them or holding them accountable.
At any level for their lack of doing anything.
And it's a complete embarrassment.
It's a nightmare from top to bottom in an organizational sense that I was there last week at Julie Wan's attempt.
I saw Councilperson Wong there as well.
Julie Wan's pitiful attempt to enter the facility.
I say pitiful attempt because
From what I can gather, it was her first attempt since she took office.
I'm a veteran.
If I'm showing up somewhere that I'm not 100% sure I can just walk right in, I'm going to test that out beforehand so as not to avoid the embarrassment that she walked right into.
That was really embarrassing, frankly.
Uh,
That you guys can't just get it together and get her in there whenever she needs to says a lot.
How's that?
I'll let that one speak for itself and let everyone else draw their own conclusions.
