Weth describes inhumane conditions and sleep deprivation
Weth says there are no windows, rooms are nine by six feet, noise echoes, he had six months of sleep deprivation, says a lawsuit is forthcoming, and recommends a paid veteran staff member to report to the council and public.
It's a nightmare.
You want to hear about the conditions inside the facility, outside of the obvious ones that we all harp on, like the leaky roof and the kitchen?
Yeah, we've thoroughly beaten those horses and those need to be addressed.
How about the fact there are no windows in the facility?
It's a residence, right?
Oh, there are windows that run around the top of the outside.
That's not, it's not a living space.
It's a warehouse or it was a manufacturing facility.
Poorly repurposed.
Those cells, that's a room for a human to live in?
Are you kidding me?
Nine by six?
Yeah, Julie Wan did talk to me outside the facility and she, uh...
Used some of the information that she gleaned from our conversation when she spoke to the press.
She brought up the fact that ourselves were smaller than is allowable by law for New York State prisons.
Oh yeah, she just pulled that out of nowhere.
She took that from me.
I gave her the numbers, nine by six.
Great.
She got a soundbite.
She also used the term Dickensian to describe the conditions.
To anyone who's not culturally up to speed,
That's a reference to The Wire, season five.
Scott Templeton, the lying reporter who fabricates a story to add to his own largesse, uses the term Dickensian when he's selling the story to his editor.
His editor fawns over the term.
Oh, yes, emphasizes the Dickensian aspect.
Now, the whole point of that scene is to illustrate that politicians like or the people in charge like to sit there and verbally pat themselves on the back in their efforts while completely missing the point.
Dickensian indeed, and still no progress.
Yeah, Dickensian, rooms without windows and ceilings.
Do you know what the sound environment is like in a tin box like that?
You can hear everything within a 50-foot radius.
It echoes.
The specific issue that I had during my time there, I did not have one night of decent sleep in that facility.
Six months straight of sleep deprivation.
That's beyond inhumane.
That's abusive.
There's a lawsuit forthcoming because I have receipts.
I contacted Julie Wan's office.
I took a picture of the rules that I signed off.
I have receipts on all this, by the way.
