Morano asks Culhane about grant chronology and improvements
Morano asks if the city knew of federal conditions before applying; Culhane says one would think so but she does not know for a fact; Morano asks if Borden has improved, and Culhane says she has not visited recently and the council should listen to veterans.
A couple of quick questions, Ms.
Colhaney.
One, thank you for everything your group does.
I appreciate it.
Just to clarify what you said about the federal grant.
So the city, just so everybody understands the chronology, the city was aware of the federal government's policy when it comes to
gender and transgender veterans, and then they still applied for the grant knowing of those conditions?
I don't, sorry, let me be very clear.
I don't know that.
I'm saying.
that one would think they did because they were published in January and the application went in, from my understanding, in February.
So, and they're part of a lot of other conditions that have, you know, in the last two years developed, creating a lot of challenges for providers and social services.
And again, my understanding is the city is involved in these things and knows
So one would think that when they applied, they did.
I don't know that for a fact.
Because you've been following the situation at Borden Avenue for a long time, you've heard a lot of the criticisms and complaints over the years.
And the last hearing on veterans'homelessness, I'm betting you're familiar with, you probably were even here.
Have you seen improvements at the Borden Avenue situation based on what you've heard today, whether it's data or whether it's anecdotal?
Do you see things moving in the right direction from your perspective?
I have not been there myself personally in the last several years, so I don't feel I'm...
Really qualified to say and would hope that it's really the veterans going through the system that we're listening to.
Thank you very much.
