Morano asks panel about veteran-community providers
Morano asks if there are veteran-community providers for future services; Matos mentions Jericho Project and Black Veterans for Social Justice, and Matthews mentions Phoenix House.
to everybody there I thought you all made an interesting case
about in the case of Mr.
Matos wanting a provider from the veteran community, in the case of Mr.
Munoz wanting someone other than ICL, and in the case of Mr.
Matthews wanting someone that understood veteran culture.
To the best of your knowledge,
Is there a provider that comes from within the veteran community that, whether it's for Borden Avenue or somewhere else, that would be a good provider for future veteran homeless services?
If so, what is it?
Thank you for the question, Chair Marano.
So we are collaborating with multiple different community partners to identify what nonprofit would have the capacity to take this on.
A few come into mind.
We do understand that the Jericho Project does work with homeless veterans, services for the underserved.
I understand the Black Veterans for Social Justice also do shelter management.
So we're looking at those as options that would have an understanding of our community better than a non-veteran entity.
Got it.
Anything you want to add, Mr.
Munoz?
No?
Mr.
Matthews?
Not really, except I would.
Mentioned, I know, Phoenix House does do good work as well.
Yeah, and Ms.
Foster was terrific in her testimony earlier.
Councilman Wong.
