Morano asks Weth for first agenda item
Morano apologizes for Weth's experience and asks what should be first on the agenda; Weth recommends a paid veteran on staff who has been through the system, criticizes grandstanding, and Morano offers to stay in touch.
Mr.
Weth, one, I'm very sorry for your experience.
I don't accept your apology.
I appreciate the sentiments.
Two, I appreciate your service very much.
Thank you for your service in the Air Force.
If you're sitting where we're sitting, I think everybody here really wants to improve conditions.
What's the first item that should be on our agenda?
What should we do?
This is the suggestion that I had.
I had a good answer for that.
And I'm almost loathe to give it now after having shown up and witnessed these proceedings.
I'll still give the recommendation, but I don't think I'll attach my name to it or volunteer or volunteer myself.
You need a veteran paid on staff who has been through this, who knows the issue from both sides, who can report not only to you.
But to the public who can make the public aware of this whole issue.
Not only all the malfeasance and deterioration that's going on, but hey, it's an opportunity for good PR for you guys too, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Thank you, Mr.
West.
Yeah, yeah.
You're very welcome.
I'd volunteer for that position.
But again, my qualifier, like, okay, how's this?
Councilperson Marano, earlier at some point, you said you've been accused of grandstanding before.
Oh, really?
What?
After I had to sit through a half an hour of thank yous and hellos and congratulations so everyone could hear their name?
Boy.
We live on grandstanding around here, huh?
That would...
Never fly in the military.
We don't have a half an hour for that.
Mr.
Weth, I hope we can stay in touch.
I understand it's politics.
No, I hope we can stay in touch.
I do want to get to these other panels.
Oh, okay.
I see what's going on here.
Pardon?
I'll give you my number and my email, and we'll stay in touch.
Am I getting cut off here?
Well, yeah.
Is this the gaffe?
Yeah.
We're giving everybody five minutes.
Oh, that was five minutes already?
It was about 10 minutes, but we are giving everybody five minutes to try to accommodate as many people as possible.
It took a couple hours waiting to get that.
I appreciate it.
And I don't want to take over anyone else's time.
Which is why we've been very flexible with the time.
Thank you, sir, and thank you for your service.
Thank you, gentlemen, for your perspective and for your testimony.
