Morano presses Dalton on roof repair timeline and tarps
Morano asks if veterans will live under tarps until 2029; Dalton says seven sleeping areas are offline, roof work starts June 2027, and she will look at expediting the timeline.
When time permits, if you could provide the committee with the legal analysis explaining why that arrangement wasn't permissible, I'd certainly appreciate it.
I visited Borden Avenue a couple of weeks ago.
I thought many aspects of the facility looked good, and I said so publicly.
And honestly, given so many of the stories that we've heard from former Borden Avenue residents, I was...
quite frankly, expecting much worse.
I was troubled by the leaks and the tarps, which you alluded to in your testimony.
Your testimony said the $4.3 million roof and skylight replacement won't be completed until December of 2029.
Are you telling us that veterans could be living in a shelter with tarps hanging over their sleeping areas for another three years?
Thank you.
Thank you for the question.
So where there are tarps in the building, there are not veterans sleeping under those, right?
We are taking those sleeping areas offline.
Currently, I believe there are seven sleeping areas offline due to repairs being made to the roof.
But the construction process and procurement city process does give the timeline that I gave in my testimony,
which runs through December of 2029, but is expected to start in June of 2027.
So hopefully progress will be seen throughout that time.
Is there anything that can be done to accelerate that timetable?
Maybe some sort of emergency procurement or any other way to eliminate the tarps at least a bit sooner?
I would certainly share that interest in expediting the timeline.
I can come back and see if there's anything we can do.
