Wong questions Dalton on urine bottles and bathroom safety
Wong asks why veterans need bottles next to their beds; Dalton says no one reported bathroom safety issues, the bathrooms are typical, and the shower privacy concerns are being fixed.
Thank you, Chair.
Commissioner Dalton, can you explain why veterans would need to have bottles next to their beds so they could urinate into, even though the bathroom is a short walk away?
Like, what is the issue?
Is the bathroom not safe?
Or is there some, why would you even allow that to happen?
Yeah, no, thank you for the opportunity to clarify.
And while I did not speak with every veteran who is residing at Borden Avenue, I spent, I don't know, 90 minutes or so with a number of folks and have been there over a couple of times over the past couple of weeks and talked to others as well.
And nobody has reported to me about safety in the bathroom.
We certainly have heard about the showers where there are real privacy concerns that I agree with and we are fixing.
But the actual bathrooms I've seen myself and are typical bathrooms.
Nobody reported that they were nervous or unable to use the bathroom.
I think that that notice was just a notice that got put out.
