Council Member Gutiérrez explains vote on COPA
Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez explains her vote in favor of COPA, thanking Council Member Nurse for her work and emphasizing that COPA is a necessary tool to protect tenants and preserve affordable housing.
Gutierrez.
Permission to explain my vote?
Permission granted.
Okay.
I want to start off by saying I vote for all.
Aye.
And I just want to speak a little bit about my reso that we're passing today, primarily because...
Council Member, my apologies for the reso.
Just wait for the discussion of resolutions.
Okay.
So I still want to explain the rest of my vote.
I just want to acknowledge the hard work of Council Member Nurse and her team who spent countless, countless hours negotiating this bill, educating our colleagues here in this room, educating opponents, and for prioritizing tenants.
I think for those of us here who represent...
Tenants adwindling rent stabilized housing stock, tenants who are constantly burdened with the cost of their rent fighting to stay here.
COPA is a very necessary and vital tool and resource.
And I think it more than anything is reaffirming that the city government has their back.
I know people feel like this is an attack on homeowners, and if you read the fine print and you read the bill, that's the complete opposite.
So I just want to recognize her and the entire coalition that has been unwavering for years on passing this bill, and I vote aye once again.
Thank you.
Thank you.
