Council Member Paladino supports extension, criticizes rushed process
Council Member Vickie Paladino supports the amendment to extend the deadline, arguing the bill was rushed and that the real danger in parks comes from unlicensed scooters and bicycles. She questions the number of fatalities caused by horse carriages.
Councilor Palladino.
Well, as usual, you would expect me to disagree, and I wholeheartedly disagree, and I most definitely agree with Councilmember Gennaro's extension of time.
This was done so hastily, and my condolences to the family, and I'm really sorry that you're
being put up here as some sort of token to show the city of New York that one person was killed by a horse.
When I did my press conference yesterday, it was completely and absolutely about the horse owners
and the time and the effort that is put into the horses by the horse owners who have made this generational.
Now, we heard here today 19 years.
Show me the proof that this has been going on for 19 years.
And why doesn't this council really try to figure out what the real danger is in this park, and that is unlicensed, unregistered, and uninsured
two-wheel scooters and bicycles that are going through our parks like this.
We also had a speaker there yesterday at the press conference that spoke as a stable owner who proved that you have a $100 million
lawsuit, the family, against the city of New York because it was Con Edison's fault that there was a shortage that caused your son to be thrown from the horse.
I want a list of how many people were actually killed by horse-drawn carriages.
The fact that not enough time was given to this bill to allow the horse owners to follow through with their proposal, which was offered to them two years ago, I understand, which they turned down.
Two years, a lot have changed.
Lots of things have changed.
And now they have a proposal to put forward to this city government.
Thank you, Councilmember.
And yet the city will not use...
Please mute her mic.
Thank you.
I'm holding a strict, if you don't speak, peon your time today.
