Council Member Paladino votes no on several items, defends middle class

New York City Council · Oct 22, 2026 · starts 1:55:38 · 3 min 30 sec

Council Member Vickie Paladino votes no on Intros 786A, 797A, 905A, and 943A, and on Resos 695 and 650. She speaks about the middle class and her opposition to COPA, arguing it infringes on property rights.

Vickie Paladino

Okay, the following.

Vickie Paladino

I vote no on intro 786A.

Vickie Paladino

I vote no on 797A.

Vickie Paladino

I vote no on 905A.

Vickie Paladino

And I just want to say something about that before I move on to my no vote on 943, the horse carriage ban.

Vickie Paladino

You know, everybody.

Vickie Paladino

We hear a lot about the very, very rich and the very, very poor.

Vickie Paladino

But nobody thinks an inch about the middle class.

Vickie Paladino

How is COPA going to affect the middle class?

Vickie Paladino

Yes, the people who have the front yards and the back yards, as it was referred to by a colleague here in this room.

Vickie Paladino

I'm proud of my front yard and I'm very proud of my backyard.

Vickie Paladino

And I know how hard my husband had to work and how I had to work in order to have that front yard and that backyard.

Vickie Paladino

I still do not own that front yard and backyard outright just yet.

Vickie Paladino

My husband is 74 years old, and he still drives a truck for a living.

Vickie Paladino

So please, let's get off this bandwagon of black and white issue.

Vickie Paladino

This is an every person issue that struggles every single day, paycheck to paycheck, to make ends meet.

Vickie Paladino

And I am voting no against COPPA because nobody's got the right to hand over my property to a non-for-profit to decide how.

Vickie Paladino

And when, but mostly how, I should go about the sale of my house that I broke my back for so that my kids could have some sort of inheritance.

Vickie Paladino

And if we want to look at government-owned property, we better start with NYCHA.

Vickie Paladino

And all the money that's being invested and how these people live in squander.

Vickie Paladino

And for those of you who don't know, my office works very closely.

Vickie Paladino

Can I have just two seconds more?

Shaun Abreu

I have to be consistent.

Vickie Paladino

I just want to say.

Shaun Abreu

Please mute her mic.

Shaun Abreu

Thank you.

Shaun Abreu

I've been very consistent today.

Shaun Abreu

All right.

Shaun Abreu

Councilman, can you tell us your vote?

Vickie Paladino

I'll go over it one more time.
