Council Member Wilson, followed by Joseph.
Thank you, Majority Leader.
I know we have a busy day today, but I'd like to end with something a little lighter.
I'm honored to be introducing resolutions commemorating two recently departed icons who left an indelible mark on popular culture in this city, this country, and the world.
With the passing of fashion designer Bob Mackie on September 14th, the world lost a unique artist's talent whose work is woven into the fabric of this city.
Mackie pioneered bold looks.
From his workshop on 7th Avenue, Mackie created pieces of high glamour not only for Hollywood stars, but for the working women of New York.
His 60-year career demonstrates the power of unapologetic camp and this city's enduring status as a trendsetter.
On August 25th, Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80, prompting an outpouring of grief and remembrance from admirers from around the world who celebrated her extraordinary contributions to music, philanthropy, business, literature, and American culture.
Workers of the world united through Dolly's melodies.
With a syncopated clicking of nails on a typewriter at the start of 9 to 5, she made relatable despair over white-collar drudgery catchy.
Coat of Many Colors spoke to the beauty amidst the struggle found in working-class life, her remarkable leadership in literacy,
initiatives and philanthropy further showed that working people and the disadvantaged were never far from her heart.
My resolution, 702, honors her contributions to the world and connection to New York City.
Those included being presented with the key of the city of New York in 1978.
So in this chamber, I hope everyone will join me in telling Dolly that New York City will always love you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
