Speaker Menin outlines legislation: COPA, ballot curing, gender-based violence data
Speaker Menin describes Intro 905A (COPA) giving nonprofits first opportunity to purchase distressed properties, Intro 786A requiring procedures for curing ballots in DOC custody, and Intro 296A requiring reports on gender-based violence data.
Introduction 905A, sponsored by Councilmember Sandy Nurse, would give certain not-for-profits or joint ventures between not-for-profits and other entities
a first opportunity to submit a statement of interest in purchasing and a first opportunity to purchase certain residential properties when offered for sale.
Thank you to Austin Malone, William A.
Jose Conde and Dirk Spencer.
Introduction 786-A, sponsored by Councilmember Savina Brooks-Powers, would require the Commissioner of Corrections to create procedures for curing ballots for voters in DOC custody.
Thank you to Jahari Frazier and to Chad Benjamin.
Introduction 296-A, sponsored by Councilmember Farrah Lewis, would require the Mayor's Office to end gender-based violence in consultation with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
to develop a report with recommendations for agencies to improve the collection and integration of data on gender-based violence.
The bill would also require the offices to develop an outreach program to survey health care providers about screening practices for gender-based violence and provide support to integrate trauma-informed practice into the screenings.
The bill would require NGBV to develop a data dashboard to share data from city and state agencies around gender-based violence in the city.
Finally, the bill would require DHS and ACS to report some information about screenings that they are conducting, including the number of screenings that led to services or referrals for gender-based violence.
Thank you to Julia Goldsmith-Pinkham and to Katie Salina.
