Chair asks how long it takes to fill a probation officer vacancy; Melendez describes month-long process
Brooks-Powers asks how long it takes on average to fill a probation officer vacancy. Assistant Commissioner Xenia Melendez says DOP provisionally posts positions, interviews within two weeks, and moves candidates to medical, psychological, and background checks within about a month.
In terms of timing, how long does it take on average for a probation officer vacancy to be filled?
Good morning.
My name is Xenia Melendez, Assistant Commissioner of Human Resources.
You can go closer to the table.
I can't hear you.
She was sworn in.
She raised her hand.
Good morning.
Xenia Melendez, Assistant Commissioner of Human Resources.
Just depending on the title.
So, for example, as Commissioner Goodwin indicated, she did reinstate the probation officer trainee position.
So we would provisionally post the position.
Within two weeks, we get a numerous amount of candidates who are interested.
We interview.
I'd say within a month, we'd have candidates who are moving on to the next pre-employment phase, which includes medical, psychological, and background investigations.
So within a month, we can have candidates who are already moving forward for the position.
