Chair urges budget talks on funding to attract probation talent
Brooks-Powers says the council should work with DOP before the next fiscal cycle to understand what funding is needed to attract talent. She says keeping people on probation rather than in carceral settings is a shared goal.
As we get prepared to go into the next fiscal cycle, it would be great to work in advance of that to understand, like, what type of funding the department would need to better attract talent to come in.
Because obviously we're looking to try and get as many people that are eligible on the path to probation as opposed to having them in a carceral setting unnecessarily.
And so if there's a way that the council can help to support that effort, it'll be great to start having those conversations as well.
