Chair asks if officers know legal eligibility issues; McKenzie explains review process
Brooks-Powers asks whether officers are told ahead of time if general counsel may oppose or take no position on early termination. McKenzie says supervision officers drive the process, general counsel reviews for legal eligibility, and officers are counseled on any legal reasons.
And if there was some disconnect there, that would be...
appropriate.
Right now, it's generally driven by policy.
And I can tell you the policy is there is no blanket objections.
Thank you for that.
And staying in the same line of questioning, are the officers made aware ahead of time that the general counsel may oppose or express no opinion on early termination?
And you raise a valid point, right, because there may be something legally that may prevent that individual from being eligible.
For this discharge.
And so are the officers made aware before they even say, I think client X should have an early discharge?
I'm not sure I understand because generally speaking, it's the supervision officers who are driving that process and general counsel should be doing a review.
