Hanif asks DA actions to reduce pre-conviction incarceration
Hanif asks what concrete steps the DA's office is taking to reduce pre-conviction incarceration. Edouard begins describing quick dispositions in retained youth part cases, but Stevens cuts in because of time and moves to the next council member.
Because I don't have a lot of time, I'll follow up just to learn a little bit more.
But could you share now just what other concrete steps the DA's team is taking to reduce the number of young people incarcerated?
before they've been convicted?
Say that again, I didn't hear you.
What's the DA's office doing to reduce the number of young people incarcerated before they're convicted?
Well, very quickly, and I'll let my colleague add on to this, what we're doing immediately is to address
the situation very, very, very quickly with respect to disposition of a case when it's before us.
In other words, once the case is retained in the youth part, because remember, we only handle cases that are retained in the youth part.
Once they're retained in the youth part.
I'm sorry, we have to move on because we have a number of council members and we haven't got to the administration, so we have to move on.
I'm sorry.
The next council member we have is Council Member Ressler and then Council Member Sanchez.
