Joseph asks about trailer capacity, staffing, and programming use
Joseph asks about trailer capacity, staffing, and whether the trailers will be used for non-school programming. Administration witnesses say each trailer holds 16 students, ACS staffing ratio is one to six, the focus is classroom space, and other uses will be explored with state oversight.
What's the maximum capacity of each trailer?
How many young people can safely use the space at one time?
It's 32, 16 in each trailer.
32?
I'm sorry, and just to be clear, for the classroom.
For the classroom spaces.
It will be inspected, ready for young people, and staffing.
I'm sorry.
And staffing.
For?
For the young people when they go into those trailers.
For the classrooms?
What is the ratio per student?
The ratio related to the education folks is in the Department of Education.
Our staffing ratios for our staff with the young people is one to six.
One and what?
I'm sorry, one to six.
One to six.
Which is different than the Department of Education's requirements.
Yeah, I know.
Beyond their intended use for school-related activities, will young people be able to use the trailers for other programming, such as after-school programming, tutoring, mentors, arts, sports, youth development initiatives?
Because I know you're creating it because you lack space, right?
What else will you be doing in that space once you create it?
Nothing?
So we don't necessarily have a plan.
Part of that will be in conversation with our state oversight to make sure that we can do different activities.
And our focus has been really on classroom space currently.
And then once we have young people,
people in those classrooms getting their education, we will happily be exploring with our state partners what approvals we can get for the other utilization.
But I do want to be clear that they are not going to be utilized for sleeping spaces.
Oh, that's good to know.
