Joseph asks who manages trailers and whether classes are suspended
Joseph asks who will manage the trailers and whether classes get suspended when staff are insufficient. Administration witnesses say ACS will manage, staffing ratios are met with specialized uniform positions escorting youth, and classes are not suspended facility-wide, though individual classrooms may pause.
Will ACS or DOE be responsible for managing this trailer, coordinating programs, ensuring young people have access to the space?
Yes.
I have a question.
I'm sorry, it's ACS.
ACS will be managing them?
Do you have enough staff to escort young people to class?
And if you don't, do the classes get canceled?
Talk to me about that.
So the staffing ratios, we currently have coverage for the staffing ratios.
We are continually, as was stated earlier, kind of in a constant hiring phase to make sure that we're continuing to bring on additional staff.
But we have met the staffing ratios as required.
And DC Ginsburg can add to that.
So we've created specialized uniform positions to support school.
And so those individuals ensure they go to the halls in the morning, they escort the young people to the classrooms.
So we have ensured that we have adequate staff to move the young people to school.
When do you decide reasons for suspending class?
Who decides that?
Is that ACS, DOE?
Who decides if class gets suspended?
We generally do not suspend classes if there's a particular incident that happens where we have to remove young people from a classroom.
We might do that for one particular classroom, but that will not affect the entire facility.
Sorry.
So it's not our practice to suspend class.
You've never had to suspend classes before because of an incident?
And if you have, how many times?
I do, we certainly have had to remove young people from a particular classroom.
We have not,
stop school in the facility, facility-wide, in maybe two and a half years.
When?
How long?
It was probably two and a half, maybe three years ago.
