Nurse asks whether the 56 youth development specialists and 85 emergency response staff are hired. Gaston and Gendell say 56 YDS were hired between June and September, 166 YDS have been hired since January, and the 85 special officer and supervisor positions are still being recruited.
Okay, and then my last question was just about where we were in terms of the 56 youth development specialists and the 85 staff.
How far along are we on recruitment and onboarding?
So I'll start and then I'll turn it over to DC at Gundell is those are the staff that have been hired, right?
Oh, they've already been hired.

We are in a continuous kind of hiring mode where there's ongoing recruitment, ongoing hiring and onboarding, and then the training, obviously, that's connected to that.
The ability to make sure that we have the staff that we need is really critical.
And the partnerships that we're getting and the support that we're getting across city agencies has been really critical.
So just to clarify, all, just because the way it's written in some of these things, it seemed like it was like an aspiration.
So are all 56 youth development specialists hired that are in this announcement?
So the 56 youth development specialists were hired.
Between June and September.
Actually, for the calendar year of 2026, it is 166 thus far.

And the 85 staff for emergency response?
I'm sorry, I didn't.
The 85 staff for emergency response?
Yes, those are currently being recruited and hired now.
Okay, so that's still not fully.
Yeah, that's a new kind of body of work and team that we've created, and so we're recruiting for that currently.
Okay, and do you know how many you've started to recruit or?
It's still in the early days?
So that's still in the early days because that's new, and we're in the process of doing the recruiting for the emergency response.
It's a different title.
Those aren't youth development specialists.
Those are special officers and special officer supervisors.
And the commissioner said exactly what I was going to say.
To just be clear, everything was sort of a point in time.
So the press release 56 YDS are already hired, and those are from June to September.
But since January, we've hired 166 YDS.
