Stevens demands who authorized water gun fight
Stevens says she received photos of a water gun fight at a facility and asks who authorized it. She calls it serious given many youth are there on gun charges and says she will send the pictures to the administration.
My next question is, I got another picture that was sent to me where young people had a water gun fight over the summer.
Who authorized that?
Because I know one of the things that I've like, I'm always about the language and we're always talking about how these young people are there with some of the serious crimes and a lot of them are gun charges.
So I need to know who authorized a water gun fight where young people are using water guns and taking pictures and throwing up gang signs.
I have pictures of that as well.
And I'm telling you, as I'm sitting here, people are texting me.
This is serious.
I need to know who authorized this.
Sergeant Roms, you can take this to them as well.
These are the pictures that were sent to me.
I'm telling you, the amount of people that have been coming into my office, I'm just like, we should all be at the table.
Like, we got to figure this out.
We got to figure this out right now.
I need to know who authorized this water gun fight and then tell the young people that they shouldn't be out in the streets using guns.
Like, that to me is some psychological stuff that's going on.
And I can send this all to you.
I'm literally sitting here and people are sending this to me.
My staff was sent all of this stuff today.
These are serious things.
This is not just about overcrowding.
And so this is being exasperated because it is overcrowded.
But we also have to take accountability for what is actually happening right now.
So I'm really unclear about who authorized that and why was this okay and how is this happening.
I've been in youth development for over 20 years.
I would not sit here and tell young people that you shouldn't be doing something and then authorize a water gun fight to the young people.
And in my testimony, we talked about 96% of those kids in there are black and brown young people.
And that's a problem for me.
I see Councilmember Joseph is back.
I have a lot more questions, so you can ask your questions.
They didn't ask any of them.
