Williams questions contraband screening of staff and visitors
Williams asks how contraband screening has changed and whether all staff go through the same screening. Gaston says everyone entering the building is screened through x-ray and other equipment, and ACS has added new entrance, exit, and handheld scanning equipment.
And the issue of contraband is a persistent one in the city's detention centers.
This is not an indictment in any one staff or all staffs, but we have seen investigations that found the staff of bringing contraband in.
We've heard reasons, some bribery, some...
fear, but I've actually heard sometimes it's helpful in trying to manage the staff, so I've heard a lot of different reasons.
But I just want to understand how the security
Screenings changed when updated, and do all staff members go through the same screening?
So everyone who comes into the building goes through the screening, through the various...
Conveyor belt, x-ray machine, the...
And I just want to, is that like mayor, commissioner on down, everyone?
Yes, yes, sir.
Everybody, okay.
No matter how many times you come.
And everybody goes through the exact same screening.
Has the screening been updated at any point?
So we have added, and DC Ginsburg can add some more detail, we have added over the last year additional equipment, new equipment to both the exits and entryways, as well as handheld
wands.
Provide that screening for anyone who's visiting the facility, but also note that the young people screening, there are some additional steps related to that just on a day-to-day basis.
Okay, thank you.
